Tibetan Freedom Concert coming to the Brown Theatre

LOUSIVILLE, KY- In celebration of the Dalai Lama's visit to Louisville May 18-21, a Tibetan Freedom Concert will be presented at the Brown Theatre at 8:00 o'clock on Monday evening the 20th. The concert will feature Kentucky native Ben Sollee and Grammy nominee Nawang Khechog. Other local and Tibetan musicians will round out the world class entertainment.

Cellist, singer-songwriter and composer, Ben Sollee is known for his innovative styling, genre-bending songwriting and electrifying performances. In 2007, he was named one of National Public Radio's "Top Ten Unknown Artists" and acclaimed for his distinctive cello technique and soulful vocals. 

Nawang Khechog is one of Tibet's renowned world music composers. A monk for eleven years, he studied Buddhist philosophy and meditation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan masters.

LOUISVILLE, KY - This play distills what everyone loves about “Pride & Prejudice”- the love story that develops between Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy.  It chronicles the pride of Mr. Darcy, the prejudice of Elizabeth and the events and people that change their hearts towards each other.  It is based on Jane Austen words.  It will be performed outside under a tent on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - At Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer's request, the Center for Interfaith Relations is hosting a special Festival of Faiths to help prepare the community for His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visit to Louisville. Now in its 18th year, the Festival of Faiths is an event that celebrates the religious diversity of our community, promotes unity and strengthens the role of faith in society. Sacred Silence: Pathway to Compassion is the theme for the May 2013 Festival of Faiths, which will take place May 14-19 at Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Galt House Hotel.

The city will come alive with a market fair featuring authentic arts and crafts from a world long ago and discover how the early settlers of Kentucky would have experienced life.

Louisville, Ky. - Global Shoes, a traveling exhibit produced by the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, opens at the Muhammad Ali Center on Tuesday, March 26. This entertaining and educational bilingual (English/Spanish) exhibit encourages children and their families to explore global cultures within the context of a fantasy shoe store and factory.

Global Shoes incorporates intriguing cultural artifacts as well as multimedia and a variety of “hands-on, feet-in” activities pertaining to the shoes worn by people around the world.

A special component of the exhibit features children’s stories and artwork describing fictional people’s lives from sixteen different countries from their shoes’ point-of-view. The countries represented include:  Samoa, Qatar, Uganda, Moldova, St.
